Wedding Hair & Makeup Timeline: What to expect on your wedding day
Here at Divine, besides our high level of skill in hair & makeup artistry, our hair and makeup artists in Colorado, Florida and Arizona are kind of known for our efficiency and precision with timing on wedding day!
Unfortunately we hear too many nightmare stories about haphazard schedules thrown together with little to no attention to detail. This is NOT a “show up and hope for the best” scenario!
Throughout the initial phase of booking, we get a full picture of what your day-of logistics look like and lay out an exact lineup (for your approval) with start time, finish time, and everything in between.
We will advise how many artists you need, and any additional fees associated. For example, some venues only allow a small amount of time in the getting-ready suite, and if your heart is set on being dolled up there, you may need more hands on deck!
We simply couldn’t sleep at night with a fly-by-the-seat-of-our-pants approach to the most momentous event of your life. Every other piece is planned to a T—why shouldn’t the beauty team aim for the same perfection?
Let’s talk about a few things you might want to think about, and what you can expect from our finely tuned process…
Every wedding has its own very specific formula based on a few key factors:
- number of services
- finish time
- location
(You don’t approximate or guess these do you? So we don’t ballpark when and where to show up, and how long it’ll take to get you glammed. Again, you’d be surprised what we’ve heard!)
So… whether you’re saying “I do” in Denver, Colorado or Miami, Florida, our bridal hair and makeup artists build your timeline around your specific venue, guest count, and getting-ready situation — not a one-size-fits-all template.
If you’re a “first-look” bride, you’ll probably need to be done & beautified before everyone else, so your hard stop time will be different than your ladies’.
As a standard rule, we allow 1 hour 45 minutes – 2 hours total for bridal hair & makeup, but trials are super helpful for your artist to determine if this needs to be tweaked. In addition, we allot 40-45 minute slots for each non-bridal hair and each non-bridal makeup. However, as we hone and fine-tooth comb the schedule, we can condense these down to 30-35 minutes, in which case we ask for photos + inspo for each bridesmaid in advance so our artists can work swiftly and efficiently. (Side note: Some services like short hair, and men’s and flower girl services are already tailored to 30 minutes each.)
We pad the beginning with a 20 minute window for arrival & setup, and cushion the end with 30 minutes to bring it in for a landing with overflow & touchups. On top of our already-impeccable timing, our artists often finish before the scheduled finish time, which provides an even more smooth and exciting transition from hair & makeup chair to jumping into dresses and dashing out for photos.
Collaboration with planners & photogs is vital to nailing the timing component. We work closely with anyone involved in the day-of play-by-play to dial in the deets of your uniquely customized wedding.
You already knew we got the skillz in the bag. Now you know we can execute the itinerary with surgical orchestration. Our only request is that you follow our prep instructions and timeline as we lay them out—this and all of the above ensures at the very least that the beauty portion of your BIG DAY goes off without a hitch before you get hitched! That’s the level of precision you can expect from wedding hair and makeup artists at Divine Beauty Artists.
