Hair & Makeup Trials: Are they worth it for your Denver wedding?

wedding hair stylist in Denver, COAs an experienced wedding hair stylist in Denver, we hear this question all the time. Some brides know for sure they want hair & makeup trials before their wedding day. Others haven’t decided, wonder if they’re required, and want to know if they’re “worth it.”

The short answer: No, not required; Yes, totally worth it!

You’ve discovered Divine Beauty because of our industry standard reputation for above & beyond customer service, professionalism, artistry, and technical skill. In other words, we know how to handle (and have seen!) every situation you can imagine, can wing it on the fly with no prior prep, and have satisfied many out-of-town, “destination brides” without trials ahead of time.

However…

We do highly recommend trials before wedding day if your logistics allow.

Here’s why!

Why Your Denver Wedding Hair Stylist Recommends a Trial

There’s so much more to the bridal beautifying process than slapping on a face of makeup and pinning a few pieces of hair to your head. We emphasize the intangibles just as much as the obvious photogenic results. Connecting with your artist/s well before the big day builds relationship & rapport. We provide personal introductions via email, and our artists make themselves available between trial and wedding so that you can reach out with any questions, updates, tweaks, or just support vibes!

Speaking of tweaks, remember, the purpose of the trial is to try on the looks you’ve been dreaming up in advance, giving you time to feel it out, think it over, and make any changes or adjustments necessary to reach perfection. Sometimes the inspo photo doesn’t translate as smoothly as you thought it would when you wear it on yourself.

And that’s okay! The organic collaboration with your wedding hair stylist/s during this co-creative part of the process establishes even more comfort & confidence so that the wedding day itself is a breeze.

You try on your dress, right? You taste the cake & wine… Why not test the rest?

That includes not only the overall look itself, but the products that work best for you and the strategy necessary to achieve it. For example, you might not know if you need clip-in extensions, and if we can’t determine based on photos, a trial is the only way to find out. Or: It’s important for us to know if your hair holds the style well; if it doesn’t, we may need to schedule you first in the morning to curl and set so that we can lock it in later just before you walk down the aisle.

You might consider planning your trials before a nice dinner or other event or even your dress fitting! That way you can wear your hair & makeup for a few hours—mix and mingle and see how it holds up over time in a similar setting as your wedding day. (On that note, keep in mind, we do not do trials Friday thru Sunday during busy season, so reach out to coordinate timing!)

No Time for a Trial? Here’s How We Still Deliver

As mentioned, our wedding hair stylists in Denver are very seasoned and experienced, and have no problem showing up on the day-of with a blank canvas and no practice run. So if you simply can’t swing a trial or for whatever reason decide you don’t want to, we still like to set you up with your lead artist for a video call so that you can have at least a virtual version of most of the above (vision board, preferences, questions, suggestions for pre-wedding hair or skin prep, etc).

Rest assured—this has always worked seamlessly and we’ve never had a disappointed bride!

And finally, one more pro tip and one more heads up:

If you’re doing a spray tan on wedding day, we recommend doing a trial tan two days before your hair & makeup trial so you can see the whole look pulled together.

If you want to trial multiple hair styles and the transition between the two is quick and easy (i.e., both have the same curl pattern, or the transition is from down to half-up or updo), no problem! But additional charge may need to be applied for factoring in additional time for multiple styles.

So circling back to the original question: hair & makeup trials are by no means required before wedding day (we got you either way!), but you’re now a bit more informed as to why they’re totally worth it.

Reach out to us with any questions you still have! We’re more than happy to help.
